Getting settled in on the overnight train from Minsk, Belarus to Kiev, Ukraine. During the night we passed through the Chernobyl "red zone" Hugh, Kathy and Anna at a big national football (soccer) match between Ukraine and I think Poland. Kathy's blowing an incredibly loud horn. Kathy teaching at the university in Kiev. It was a challenging trip.
A pan (you'll see I love these) overlooking the river in Kiev. Kathy and Anna (one of our friends and translators) shopping at a Kiev tourist market
Anna at the city square in Kiev In Minsk, Belarus now in the MASSIVE city square! Minsk city square
Kathy serving chai from our room in the hotel at Svetlagorsk, Belarus. Most of the time in the city, the KGB held our passports until we were ready to leave. Vic teaching at a technical university in Minsk, Belarus Vic teaching in Minisk
Most the metros in eastern Europe have incredible artwork at each stop-- this one is in Minsk, Belarus. Minsk was nearly completely destroyed during World War II, but the city underwent a massive rebuilding and restoration campaign. This is the rebuilt "Old Town" from the Mother's War Memorial island. Kathy and Anna on a walk through the outskirts of Svetlagorsk, Belarus
