(Rabaul, Papua New Guinea- Sept 2005):  Kathy & I were at PNG for our 3rd HIV/AIDS teachers' confernece, our 2nd time in Rabaul on the island of East New Britain.  While there Mt. Tavurvur the local volcano was active. (Rabaul, Papua New Guinea- Sept 2005): We're part of a 3 person training team plus staff from Crossroads.

Next to us are Don the Australia-Pacific Crossroads coordinator, and Mark Kelley a health educator from Oklahoma State-Tulsa.

Mt. Tavuvur would send molten rock up around 300 meters in the air about every 5-10 minutes, sending ash down constantly over the school we taught at.

The mountain itself is actually on the rim of a giant volcanic caldera, and ancient volcano that like Crater Lake had exploded and collapsed on itself leaving an incredibly deep cr (Rabaul, Papua New Guinea- Sept 2005):

During the day this was our view from the beach below our bungalow. That's the volcano in the center.
